What I Wore Wednesday

Welcome to What I Wore Wednesday, Election Day Edition. I found this amazing dress on Poshmark sometime in the summer and thought immediately that I would wear it on this day since it's a version of our red, white, and blue but in more muted tones. In my head, I imagined I would need to wear a jacket with it but since today was over ninety degrees (g-r-o-s-s) that wasn't even an issue! Here are the details:

Dress: Anthropologie
Wedges: BCBGeneration

As always, I'm linking up for WIWW with The Pleated Poppy!

Faux Fall

I was looking at my little collection of fall denim today and had a pleasant realization- I love getting a good deal! I've only spent around $60 for five pair of jeans that would've cost over $700 retail. They're all great quality and beautiful to wear but the real moral of the story is that I will never be able to buy a pair of full-price J Brand jeans now that I got an amazing pair at the thrift store for $3.95. It just won't happen.

The weather this week has been near ninety degrees- where did fall go? My sisters, Miles, and I made the best of this summer- I hate even typing that out- weather by heading to the beach. We loaded the stroller with the diaper bag, water bottles, and Cheerios but quickly regretted that decision when we tried to navigate the soft sand with what clearly is not an all-terrain stroller. Krystal held Miles while Krystine and I carried the stroller to the hard-packed sand close to the water. Quite a workout! Once we were at the shore, the girls collected sand dollars while I tried to convince Miles that it was okay for his feet to get wet. We had a great time!
Beautiful Pismo Beach
I love this photo of my sisters and me even though it's not the best quality!

October Giveaway: Getting In The Mood (For Fall!)

My sisters didn't have school today, so we all decided to head over to our local park and get some fresh air. Miles is such an adventurous spirit- he wants to be on the move, looking and pointing and babbling along the way. I love seeing his personality shine through more and more as each month passes, and wearing Miles as we walked under beautiful trees and near squirrels was a delight because I can see how much he enjoyed exploring the park snuggled up close to me. I couldn't be happier that he's a mama's boy. Here are some photos of our day:

I am in love with fall, people- the fall crispness that I've begun to feel in the air the last few days is nothing short of magical, as far as I'm concerned. Even though I live on the beautiful Pacific coast with all its bright sunny days, I thrive on overcast days, rain, and fog. This is the time of the year I feel most comfortable and full of anticipation for some of my favorite days between now and the start of spring: my birthday, the holidays, Miles's birthday, and our wedding anniversary.

Maybe you're a summery soul, or maybe you're just in love with fall as I am. Either way, this month's giveaway is an assortment of treats (no tricks here!) to get you in the mood for fall. My lovely sponsors are getting in on the festivities as well- take a look at what we've got going on this month!

This month's winner will receive:

A set of four J.R. Watkins naturally-based foaming hand soaps from their new line (see my review)
A wonderfully batty greeting card from
B.Impressed
A 200x300 ad space for two months from
  Oh So Amelia
15 days of in-post footer ad space from
  Jellibean Journals
A $12 giftcard to Starbucks from
 Expandng
A free Blogger template from
  The Family Darr
A $10 giftcard to Starbucks from
  The Jack Chronicles

The rules are simple: you must follow Joie de V via GFC and enter via Rafflecopter below! The giveaway will end at on Monday at 12:01 a.m. EST. Good luck!

What I Wore Wednesday

This week should actually be called What I Wore at Disneyland Last Weekend. But, it's better than doing nothing! Also, I want to show off the cute Hanna Andersson romper Miles wore today. It's such a keeper.

The outfit:

Sunnies: Chanel
Hoodie: Roxy
Jeans: Gap
Shoes (not seen): Simple

Miles looked so cozy and ready for fall in his new hooded outfit this morning. He was crawling around in our front yard, picking up leaves and trying to eat grass (such a boy). I can't wait for the weather to really cool down so we can add hats and boots to an outfit like this!

If you haven't already, take a look at all of our Disneyland photos on my most recent post here!

What I Wore Wednesday

I think I've given up on trying to catch a well-timed and effortless-looking photo for WIWW (via The Pleated Poppy)- thus the cropped head in this week's photo. Miles isn't old enough to take my picture (he'd much rather gum my iPhone to baby drool oblivion), and he's the only one around the house with me on most Wednesdays now that my sisters are back in school. So, it's back to the old mirror trick for me because for some reason I love to proudly show you all that I don't go "mama casual" (AKA yoga wear) every day... mostly just from Thursday to Tuesday.

The outfit:

Sweater: Gap
Jeans: Earnest Sewn

What I Wore Wednesday

Today was a hat and comfy yoga clothes day if I ever saw one. The weather was very summery (not my favorite- I'm definitely a fall and winter girl) and my hair was going flat as it tends to do so I added a hat, a pair of orange flats for a little burst of color, and settled Miles into his sling. It was Mama Casual at its finest!

Here are the details:

Hat: Payless
Sling: Sakura Bloom
Top: TJ Maxx
Pants: Lululemon
Shoes: Target

As you can see, I figured out the sling! I went through the same initial process as when I first wore Miles in the Baby K'Tan as a newborn: (1) read the manual and get excited, (2) attempt to put the baby in and get frustrated, then (3) curse the piece of fabric that is somehow smarter than I am and (4) walk away to enjoy baby cuddles and calm down. I wind up not touching the carrier for a day or two and (5) come back, just to give it another chance before I return the darn thing. This is usually when (6) I figure it out for the first time and then avoid taking Miles out of the sling for fear that I will never be able to puzzle it out again. It's usually smooth sailing from there, thank goodness. I have to say that the Sakura Bloom sling is so comfortable and pretty, to boot (no annoying prints and in a beautiful linen fabric)! There are definitely more photos to come- I'm planning a babywearing post so prepare yourselves for a whole lot of cuteness (from Miles, of course)!

Happy Wednesday! (Once again linking up with The Pleated Poppy.)

What I Wore Wednesday

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon with my sisters since it's their last day of summer vacation. While Miles napped, we sat in the front yard and took pictures for this week's What I Wore Wednesday, the girls played with the neighbor cat who wandered into our yard, and then they painted their nails while we watched Toddlers & Tiaras (quite possibly the most ridiculous show ever).

The girls love taking pictures. Of themselves, of the sky, of their feet...oh, the random photos I've found on my phone! It cracks me up to see their perspective of life. And they make me laugh. Because they are goofballs.

Next up: What I Wore Wednesday! (I wish this photo of me was set on a beach or something, but I guess the next door neighbor's truck will have to do.)

They even got me to jump!

So, what's today's outfit? Here are the details:

Sunnies: Chanel
Top: A local boutique in SLO
Jeans: James Jeans
Sandals: Coach
Bag: Thrift store!

Of course, I'm linking up again with The Pleated Poppy- go visit her and see all the great outfits everyone posted this week!

What I Wore Wednesday

Gotta love the random gnome...
This week has been all about vacation. It is my golden week of freedom- yes, I really just said "golden week of freedom"- before the fall semester starts on Monday. This is my summer all crammed into a few short days (swimming, laying in the sun, doing a whole lot of nothing) and I've definitely been making the most of it, as you can see from my flowy, hippie tye-dye maxi dress- from Target, in case any of you WIWW readers are wondering.  I would never wear this out in public, but at home on my summer vacation? Sure, I'll rock it.

So, there you have it. Once again, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy.

Don't forget to enter this month's giveaway if you haven't already!
Happy Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday

I'm not going to lie, I had my sister snap this impromptu photo on my iPhone today as we were finishing up a shopping adventure at Target. This is my (for the most part) daily look- hair pulled back into a messy bun (as much as I try to wear my hair down more often, Miles loves to grab my hair and it's no fun to constantly be moving it out of the way!), jeans, sandals, and the diaper bag. Here are the details:

Sunnies: Chanel (can you tell I only own one pair of sunglasses?)
Top: Tresics (via TJ Maxx)
Jeans: Seven for All Mankind
Diaper bag: SkipHop
Sandals: Coach (no joke, the most comfortable sandals I've ever owned!)

Happy Wednesday, everyone! And thanks again to The Pleated Poppy for encouraging me to put some effort into my outfits!

What I Wore Wednesday

It's time for another What I Wore Wednesday (via The Pleated Poppy)! I was pretty excited to wear a dress this week- my legs aren't so pale ever since I've gone swimming with my family and I don't have to walk around feeling self-conscious anymore! Yippee!

Here's all the details of my outfit:

Dress: Gap
Belt: Forever 21
Sandals: Target

On the beauty side of things, there are a few new things I've tried in the last week. Firstly, I bought a set of three Cynthia Rowley nail polishes and they're great colors (fuchsia, teal, and neon orange- I'm not sure if I'll try the orange or not) for adding a little something bright to my normally neutral outfits. I also tried a sample of Bumble and Bumble's new Color Minded shampoo, conditioner, and hair balm. The shampoo and conditioner are fantastic, but to all you girls out there with fine hair like me, do not apply the balm near your roots. It weighed my hair down like you wouldn't believe! And finally, this month in my Birchbox I received a sample of Stila's Hydrating Beauty Balm- I'm putting it on my wish list of makeup to buy sometime in the future. It really is a wonderful product and I highly recommend it if you are on the lookout for a new primer.

Have a great Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday

Today I had two WIWW photographers- my sisters- and we had so much fun walking around and taking photos for this week's What I Wore Wednesday (via The Pleated Poppy).

Here are the details:

Sunnies: Chanel
Gold butterfly earrings: Pac Sun
Tee: Cynthia Rowley
Watch: Juicy Couture (available now in my Poshmark closet!)
Pants: Gap
Platform sandals: Target

I was surprised and excited to find that these pants are a bit too loose for me now- that's always a good feeling! I've been trying to get back into my workout stride, but haven't quite hit it yet. One day at a time!

What I Wore Wednesday

Nice jeans, Mom!
I'm celebrating another July birthday today (you'd be amazed how many of my family member's birthdays are in July)- my mom! She is a strong, determined, kind, and fiercely protective mama who I am very thankful to have in my life! I came across a photo today of her and me when I was about four or five and it's one of my favorite photos of us because she has that "mommy love" look on her face that I feel with Miles- just so blissfully happy to love and be loved by her little one. There are a lot of things that she was a stickler for when I was growing up that I still find myself hearing her voice with even as an adult- for example, correct grammar (especially "he and I" or "him and me") or how to determine the appropriate length of shorts or the right fit of swimsuits when shopping for summer (a source of endless frustration for the teenage me, but helpful now- no one wants to see Queen Victoria if you know what I mean!). Needless to say, I appreciate her and love her to pieces. Happy Birthday Mom!

Today I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy again for What I Wore Wednesday. I'm just now starting feel more like my normal self after my cold (how sad is it to get sick in the summer?) and I decided to will myself back to full strength by not dressing like I'm sick (also known as a black hoodie and grey yoga pants) and putting my bronzer to good use. Here are the details:

Gold leaf earrings: Pac Sun
Cardigan: Forever 21
Top: Target
Cargo jeans: Pac Sun
Gold flower sandals: Steve Madden

I hope you all are having a great week!

What I Wore Wednesday

This week, I was really looking forward to Wednesday because it's my husband's birthday! And boy, do I love birthdays- I think they're almost as great as the holidays. Parker doesn't feel the same way at all (Christmas is by far his favorite day of the year!), but I try to make his birthday amazing anyway. I got him subscriptions to two of his favorite magazines- Mental Floss and Time...nerd alert!- along with a new watch, since I had just realized the one he currently wears fastens with Velcro (second nerd alert- I love you honey)! Miles and I went in search of suitable birthday cards, and emerged from the store triumphant with cards that were not too mushy, not too "funny", but just right. Once we got home, I let Miles play to his heart's content in the bouncer while I got to work on the finishing touches of Parker's present. When it was time to work on Miles's card to Parker, I decided to try tracing my little guy's hand as a cute touch. It was hilarious! I was laughing, Miles was laughing, and he was moving...a lot. But we finally got it done, and then went outside to sit on the driveway waiting for Parker to get home from work. He loved his gifts- mission accomplished!

Now, on to What I Wore Wednesday (once again linking up with The Pleated Poppy. It's been a bit foggy here in the mornings, and I took that as a great excuse to bring out this sweater (which I love!). Also, I didn't do anything to my hair except throw it into a messy bun- this is my go-to hair "style" (if you could even call it that...there really isn't any styling involved) when I'm busy studying, or just feeling lazy. Here are the details:

Sweater: Kensie
Necklace: Target
Grey tee: thrifted
Jeans: Seven for All Mankind
Moccasins: Minnetonka

Happy Wednesday everyone! Don't forget to enter my July giveaway- you have until the end of Sunday to enter!

What I Wore Wednesday

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! It's that time again to link up with The Pleated Poppy for What I Wore Wednesday! I included two extra photos today- one of what Miles wore (that little jacket is just too cute!), and one of my workout clothes. I feel like this first outfit probably isn't my best look- I wanted something loose and comfortable, but I'm so petite it doesn't really do anything for me. Here are the details:

Outfit #1

Top: Target
Jeans: Target
Shoes: Sven clogs

Workout Clothes:
Top: Thrifted
Shorts: New Balance
Shoes (not shown): Vibram Five Fingers

Parker got off work a little early today and we decided to go for a run (we're doing the Couch to 5K program). We walked and ran a total of three miles, and it was not fun! I tend to be grouchy when I exercise, and poor Parker was trying to make conversation along the way. It went something like this:

Parker: So how're you doing?
Me: (gasping air)...Fine.
Parker: How's your mom doing?
Me: Why...(gasp) are you...(wheeze) talking... to me?!

Anyway, I was glad when the workout was over and we had run from our house to Parker's parents' house. I chugged a bottle of water and cooled down from the run while we visited...and then we got fast food on the way home. Oops.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

What I Wore Wednesday

Happy Wednesday everyone! This week I'm excited to link up again with The Pleated Poppy and A Little Bit of Lacquer for What I Wore/ Work It Wednesday.

Today I decided to step outside for my outfit photos and had my silly but completely lovable husband take my photos. After I showed him this video (via my friend Chrystal at Fairly Obvious), he was making all sorts of comments- I couldn't stop laughing.

PS: I stopped by my friend Whitney's house this morning- she always looks amazing (and tan, I'm so jealous)! Stop by her blog to see what she's wearing this Wednesday.

"No, babe! Little teapot: chin down, eyes up!" -Parker

Here are the details:

Hat: Payless (I know!)
Sunnies: Chanel
Tee: Target (I love that it says "Will Work for Shoes")
Pants: Gap
Sandals: Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent

Have a great day!

What I Wore Wednesday

Today I got to visit with my mama friends Becky, Morgan, and Whitney and we were crazy enough to take all the kids to Arby's for lunch. There were twice as many kids as adults! Needless to say, there was lots of fun and lots of wrangling. I thought we were all dressed very cute today! I'm calling it the Effortless Mama look (she may have just been sneezed on by a child with a bite full of food, but you'd never know it with the cute patterned scarf she has on!). Of course, it was already the afternoon by the time I realized it was Wednesday.

Now that it's officially summer, I'm dreading the moment I'm going to have to show my ghostly pale legs to the world. I haven't found a self-tanner yet that doesn't make me look like an Oompa Loompa; in the meantime, I'm slowly transitioning from jeans to skirts. Do I even dare wear shorts? That would be a sight. Anyway, here's what I wore today!

Tank: Target
Jeans: thrifted
Necklace: thrifted
Shoes: Rocket Dog
Lip color: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine #57, Aventure (my favorite)

Of course, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy and A Little Bit of Lacquer for What I Wore/ Work It Wednesday! I'm loving their looks.

Happy Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday

Well, this week has flown by! Sorry I haven't posted much in the last few days- as you can see, the new blog design is being installed and there are a few hiccups that are being fixed before it will actually be complete. I love the new design and can't wait for it to be finished!

Anyway, I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy and A Little Bit of Lacquer this week for this Wednesday's outfit. Here's all the details!

Lip color: Speed Dial by MAC
Shirt: TJ Maxx
Jeans: Earnest Sewn
Shoes: (my favorite pair of) Sven clogs

I stopped by Macy's with my sis-in-law yesterday in hopes of finding a pretty pink lip color for summer that was bolder than what I usually wear but not too bold. The girls at the MAC counter gave me some Kleenex, a makeup remover wipe, and a little cup of alcohol to clean the tester lipsticks and promptly left me to my own devices, so I tried on a whole bunch of different colors. They ranged from crazy orange (there's no way I can pull that look off!) to my safety range of sheer pinks. This one is definitely not sheer, but it's a happy medium.

Oh, and my clogs. These shoes are the best. They're super comfortable and really cute. I have two pairs of Sven clogs and I wish I had more! Sven is a great brand to try whether you are a longtime fan of this style or completely new to the concept of wooden shoes because you can design your own- from the heel height and style to the material and the color! Definitely stop by their website and take a look around.

Have a great Wednesday!

What I Wore Wednesday

I finally decided to join in on The Pleated Poppy's What I Wore Wednesday and realized two things: firstly, I need to clean my mirrors more often, and two- this is pretty fun. Here are the details:

pleated poppyScarf: Alexander McQueen
Top: TJ Maxx
Jeans: Seven For All Mankind
Shoes: Forever 21

I've been making strides in not simply reaching for my "Mommy Uniform"- black yoga pants, grey tee, and a hoodie (my shoes do vary by mood)- and I'm liking the alternative. My biggest challenge tends to be my hair; most of the time, I just want to fix it in a messy bun, slip a headband on, and be on my way (at least today I used a scarf, right?). Maybe now's the time to get into the habit of putting a little more effort there as well. More than likely I will wind up using a lot of dry shampoo and scouring Pinterest's Hair and Beauty section with keywords like "easy" and "mom".

Here's to making an effort.
